Osborne Panoramic Images Of the Pacific NW,1929-1942
A single CD-ROM full of images scanned from the National Archives (and other repositories). It contains 3100 images taken with the Osborne Swing Lens Panoramic Camera (only 10 ever built) from the State and National Forests of Oregon and Washington. Also included is an annotated USFS Region Six map from 1933. Just click on a dot to link to that site.
The CD-ROM will operate on any platform: UNIX, MAC, DOS or WIN9X with a current browser, no installation required. The CD retails for $39.99. Distributors and retailers are encouraged to contact us about setting up an account.
Each image is a 50dpi scanning of the 14 inch by 6 inch print (earlier images, pre- 1932, measure less than 14x6) from the cited source. Most sites have three images, some have less, and some have as many as four supplemental images. Each site has an accompanying map showing its location within its forest. Most of the sites were permanent lookouts, some were patrol points, and others were simply points of interest.

Osborne Panoramic Images,1929-1942
A series of CD-ROMs full of images scanned from the National Archives (and other repositories). It contains 3100 images taken with the Osborne Swing Lens Panoramic Camera (only 10 ever built) from the State and National Forests of Oregon and Washington. Also included is an annotated USFS Region Six map from 1933. Just click on a dot to link to that site.
The CD-ROMs will operate on any platform: UNIX, MAC, DOS or WIN9X with a current browser, no installation required. Each of the three disks (CDs) retails for $69.00 each, discounts are available for quantities of five or more. Distributors and retailers are encouraged to contact us about setting up an account.
Each image is a 100dpi scanning of the 14 inch by 6 inch print (earlier images, pre- 1932, measure less than 14x6) from the cited source. Most sites have three images, some have less, and some have as many as four supplemental images. Each site has an accompanying map showing its location within its forest. Most of the sites were permanent lookouts, some were patrol points, and others were simply points of interest.
The images are grouped into three subregions: Western Oregon, Eastern Oregon, and Washington. Each subregion CD contains 100dpi images from that subregion and some "thumbnail" images (18dpi) of the other subregions. This was done to conserve space on each disk, which are close to full.
