I spent 6 weeks in the summer of '86 hiking the PCT of Oregon with a friend. It took 40 days, from July 19th to September 1st. On the way we took 322 photo's of us, the trees, the views and sometimes something worth a photo.
Can you imagine being within sight or sound proximity with another person 24 hrs a day for 40 days straight. That is but one of the sacrifices needed to accomplish a hike such as this. The planning and preperation went on for about two years.
It started out as an innocent dare, "Wana hike the PCT?" I would say to Roger, tantalizing his sense of adventure. By this time we had logged about 300 miles over a period of 9 years. The longest had been a 100 mi, 6 nights, around Mt. Rainier in '80. I insisted that the entire 2000 miles could, and should, be done in one event. But Roger insisted that it would take too long and be too agressive for us. This from a person who forced me to day hike 35 mi around Three Finger Jack in one day and then climb the South Sister the next. I setteled on doing it in sections. The first was to be Oregon, from south to north. Going north would allow us to follow the snow melt (and the masquitos).
